Experience:

I have been practising as a person-centred therapist for the past 15 years and during that time have worked with a diversity of clients bringing a wide range of issues. I worked in several large voluntary counselling agencies in Edinburgh and began my private practice there in 2004. In 2011 I moved to London where I set up my current practice in Kingston.

My experience is in working with individuals who are struggling to cope with loss and bereavement, stress, relationships, abuse, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression. Sometimes clients need just a few sessions to clarify and sort out their difficulties but often a client will want to look at deep seated issues from childhood or do some personal development and will want to engage in longer term work. These decisions are mutual and I am very flexible about frequency of sessions and length of contract.

Over the past few years I have become increasingly interested in problems faced by women (and sometimes men), struggling to come to terms with miscarriage, infertility, childlessness, menopause and ageing - hidden grief which is often hard to share.

I also have a particular interest in difference of all kinds, together with the individual search for creative living. My background in the arts has given me a strong belief in the power of the creative process in enabling each and every one of us to achieve our potential.

The Way I Work

As a person-centred practitioner I work in a non-directive way, believing that we all have within us the knowledge to live our lives in the fullest way possible and to fulfil our potential as the unique human beings we are. I see my job as accompanying the client on their personal journey whilst helping to identify the beliefs and self-structures which stand in the way. I see it as a joint voyage of discovery.

Ethics & Complaints

As an accredited member of BACP I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice and by its Professional Conduct Procedure.
